Mona Walia

As a first-generation American, Mona was born into a fairly conservative Punjabi-Indian family living in Washington state. Always wanting to challenge cultural norms, Mona has spent nearly 20 years working as a champion for Social and Reproductive justice through health care, advocacy, and education; while battling to remove the stigma from abortion and LGBTQ healthcare. In an effort to break down cultural barriers for her two daughters, Mona has taken her passion and experience back to her roots and founded the group SASSE (South Asians for Sexual and Social Empowerment). Her hopes are to Educate, Empower, and Encourage the South Asian community by removing stigmas that limit discussions surrounding sex and sexuality education.
