Queering Desi is a podcast that celebrates the unique experiences of South Asian LGBTQ+ people. Each week, a guest will chat with long-time community activist, writer, and Brown Girl editor Priya Arora, about their journey, their work, and what it means to be true to who you are. To help us share our stories in our own words, and take the burden of representation off each individual, this podcast aims to be a breeding ground for discussion and a platform for being loud and proud, no matter who you are!
A message from your host, Priya: Season 1 of Queering Desi is coming to an end soon! This week on Priya chats with singer and actor Vardaan Arora about his journey from New Delhi to New York, and the origins of his love for pop music. Two discuss South Asian representation in the entertainment industry, and Vardaan shares his personal experience with mental illness and how his identities fuel the lyrics and music he creates. As they wrap up, Vardaan and Priya chat about recent celebrity suicides and the challenges of addressing mental health in the South Asian community.
More about Vardaan:
Vardaan Arora arrived at the pop scene in 2016 with his self-written viral debut single ‘Feel Good Song’. The track charted on Spotify’s Global and US Viral 50 charts, giving Vardaan an opportunity to continue writing and releasing more material.
He describes his music as infectious and uplifting, often drawing lyrics from his own struggles while contrasting summer-ready beats. His latest single ‘What If’ is out now.
