UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – Pennsylvania State University is proud to present Infusion, the most anticipated intercollegiate Filmi-Fusion dance competition in the nation. After two successful years, and having been voted as Best Overall Event in the circuit, as well as Best Hospitality, Infusion hopes to continue to build on its success this upcoming Spring.

With an anticipated crowd of more than 1,500 attendees in the Eisenhower Auditorium, Infusion 2015 promises to be truly memorable for each individual involved. Unlike other competitions, for participants, Infusion is a weekend-long experience, and the memories will begin the moment they arrive at the competition hotel on Friday, March 20 until they leave on the morning of Sunday, March 22. Their weekend will consist of a mixer to socialize with other teams, various rehearsals, the actual competition and a celebratory social to round out the weekend.

Filmi-Fusion Dance is one of the newest and fastest growing South Asian dance genres in North America. Entertaining crowds throughout the continent for the past decade, Filmi-Fusion combines two distinct dance styles: Hindi Film Dance (HFD) and Fusion. HFD focuses on traditional Bollywood themes, from romantic fairytales to thrilling suspense and social movements, expressed to popular Bollywood tracks. Fusion, on the other hand, blends a variety of South Asian dance styles with various western dance forms such as hip-hop, ballet and lyrical.

As North America’s South Asian community continues to grow and experience success in global music and cinema, Bollywood is becoming a household term. Because of the increasing popularity of South Asian culture, audiences will be enticed by the storytelling masterpieces that Filmi-Fusion teams showcase at Infusion. Nine teams from around the country will compete for the chance to win $3,000 in cash prizes and a prestigious bid to the national championship: Bollywood America, which will be held in Phoenix, AZ.

This year, Infusion will be hosted by Miss America 2014, Nina Davuluri. Nina Davuluri was one of over 14,000 young women to vie for the coveted title of Miss America 2014 and its $50,000 scholarship award. In September of 2013, Nina, a University of Michigan graduate, gained international acclaim by becoming the first contestant of Indian descent to win the Miss America Competition representing the state of New York. Over the course of Nina’s year of service as Miss America, she logged approximately 250,000 miles traveling across the country to address an array of audiences on her platform: “Celebrating Diversity through Cultural Competency”.

Infusion will be held on March 21, 2015 at 6:00 PM at Eisenhower Auditorium in University Park, Pennsylvania. Tickets are available for purchase at www.cpa.psu.edu. Proceeds will be donated to the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON).
